Does Vitamin C Lighten Skin Tone?

Does vitamin c can really make our skin lighter? Yeah, this is one of the most asked questions on my Facebook Page, email, YouTube comments, and even on my personal Facebook account. I am writing this blog post to explain further how vitamin c works on our body and skin.

Before diving into vitamin c and skin whitening, it is important to know what is vitamin c and how it works as skin lightening. Vitamin C a.k.a Ascorbic Acid is one of the most generous minerals. It is a water soluble vitamin that is badly needed by our body for almost all cell functions. It is also an antioxidant that works to neutralize free radicals which are harmful and can easily damage the skin and other vital organs of the body.

Vitamin C can be found in most citrus fruits such as limes, lemons, oranges, and guava. It is also available in green leafy veggies. The fastest way to take vitamin c today is by means of buying vitamin c supplements in capsule or tablet forms. So does vitamin c can really help us achieve lighter skin?

The answer is yes! Vitamin C in its various forms is known to be very effective in skin whitening. It is a potent antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals that damages our skin causing aging and dark skin pigmentation. Vitamin c also tells our system to increase the level of our body's natural glutathione and vitamin e that help the skin to make the yellowish pheomelanin instead of eumelanin which is darker. The acidic nature of vitamin c helps to cleanse our skin and fight infections that may have been caused by micro-organisms. This ensures healthier, brighter, and smoother skin. Awesome ins't it?

Now that you know the effects of vitamin c on our skin, it is also important to remember that the whitening effect may vary from one person to another. There are a lot of factors to consider like current skin complexion, gender, lifestyle and many more. It is still best to consult your doctor first especially in you are under medication or if you have allergic reactions to medicines. I always take vitamin c particularly when I am resting my body from taking glutathione supplements. Yes, vitamin c alone can make my skin more radiant. :)
